Gladiators: Warriors of the Ancient World
About the project
I worked on a documentary project for Dash Pictures, produced for National Geographic, focusing on the world of gladiators.
My role involved creating real-time environments in Unreal Engine designed to be used on LED walls with live actors. These environments included large-scale Roman coliseums populated with animated crowds, as well as several specific locations inspired by Ancient Rome, all built to add realism, scale, and life to the scenes.
I was the sole Unreal Engine artist on this project, which made the experience both challenging and extremely rewarding. A significant part of the work revolved around crowd simulation—an area that can be complex and demanding to master, but one that ultimately delivered strong visual results. This project gave me the opportunity to experiment, push my technical skills further, and explore new workflows in real-time rendering and virtual production.
