About the project

The Ghibli Concert project was particularly engaging as it involved a collaborative effort with Nico Gemoets, a talented 2D animator who has previously collaborated with Disney and other major studios. Nico created 2D illustrations and animations designed to enhance a concert celebrating the music of Ayo Miyazaki, the renowned composer associated with Studio Ghibli.

Due to tight time constraints—around one and a half to two months to produce nearly two hours of concert visuals—we strategically decided to animate the characters using looping 2D shadow animations. Meanwhile, I handled the creation of the backgrounds in 3D, which intentionally avoided looping to provide extended contemplative scenes. This creative combination of 2D and 3D elements resulted in a visually poetic and compelling final piece.
